Case Study - INEOS 1:59 Challenge

On October 12, 2019, Eliud Kipchoge became the first person to run a sub-two-hour marathon, recording a time of 1:59:40 for the 42.195km distance. That’s the equivalent of running 100 metres in 17 seconds… 422 times in a row. He maintained an average speed of more than 20 km/h throughout.
The live stream of the event on ineos159challenge.com provided an enhanced, cutting edge viewing experience. Custom interactive live overlays, powered by Singular, were designed for the event, allowing each viewer to choose their language and display overlays on demand thereby putting every user in the driving seat. As an additional bonus, the overlays were adaptive to the viewer's device. Singular recognized the screen size of the viewing device and automatically adjusted the sizing and positioning of the overlays to optimize the user experience for those tuning in on a tablet, phone or desktop.
Sunset+Vine and INEOS produced the event and Reality Check Systems built the bespoke overlays in Singular's Composer for the enhanced live stream of the event on the INEOS website - www.ineos159challenge.com. RCS, in addition, provided data and technology services across the board for both the main broadcast and the enhanced website live stream. The overlays were populated by data from the official timing provider, Mika Timing, and other sources including Twitter (a social media carousel) and Google Sheets (manually entered data for pacemakers and weather).
